FAQS
Do I need to be home when my appliance is picked up?
If the appliance is inside the home, an adult (18 years or older) must be present for the appliance to be picked up. If the appliance is outside of the home, no one has to be present for the appliance to be picked up.
How long does an appointment take?
Each appointment can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on the location of your appliance.
Will I receive any reminder notifications prior to pickup?
Yes, you will receive a confirmation email immediately after scheduling and a reminder email the day before your appointment. Depending on your preferences, you’ll also receive a text or an email the day of your appointment to notify you of the estimated pickup time.
How are the appliances recycled?
Our recycling partner will safely and responsibly decommission and recycle your appliance.
Can I get an incentive for an appliance if it doesn’t work anymore? Why does the appliance need to be able to turn on?
No, the appliance must be able to plug in and run. If an appliance still works, it can still use energy. Removing and recycling old, inefficient appliances helps our customers save energy and reduces demand on the grid.
Do I need to have my appliance outside already or can it be in its current location?
No, we offer in-person home pick-up or curbside pick-up.
Can more than one appliance be picked up during one appointment?
Yes, more than one appliance may be picked up at a time. You can schedule up to two refrigerator or freezer pickups per calendar year. Dehumidifiers and small air conditioner units may only be picked up along with a refrigerator or freezer.
How big can my refrigerator or freezer be? Are mini refrigerators eligible?
They must be residential-sized refrigerators and/or freezers that are approximately between 10 and 30 cubic feet. Typically, mini refrigerators don’t meet these size requirements.
How many incentives can I receive for qualified equipment?
You may get no more than 2 total incentives in a calendar year.
Can I dispose of my refrigerator myself?
Yes, but it can be costly. You would need to arrange transportation, pay any disposal fees and ensure proper recycling. By participating in this program, we handle removal at no cost, pay you a $50 rebate and ensure your appliance is recycled safely and responsibly.
Is the appliance pickup procedure safe?
Yes. We make recycling safe and easy for you. Our process includes moving your appliance out of your home, hauling it to our facility and recycling it responsibly. Our trained team uses proper equipment and safety gear to protect both you and our employees during pickup.
Do I need to clean out my refrigerator before pickup?
Yes. Your refrigerator or freezer must be completely empty and free of food and ice when we arrive.
Are other appliances eligible for the program?
Currently, the program only accepts and recycles refrigerators and freezers. We can also pick up dehumidifiers or room air conditioner units if requested during refrigerator or freezer pickup, but they are not eligible for a rebate.
